This is a pretty antique French cherry wood butter press. A press was essential kitchen kit when people made and shaped their own butter. To decorate the butter, pictures were carved into the base and in this case a pretty floral and leaf design. Once the butter was ready, a hook catch easily releases the sides of the press. This will make a lovely decorative item in any kitchen interior.
