A galvanised hip bath with a traditional high back. The circular bath surround has a roll top edge, that slightly raises either side as arm armrests. This style of bath was very popular from the mid 19th to early 20th century in households without running water, as it was small enough to fill with water from jugs. It also had medicinal use, giving relief to discomfort and pain in the lower part of the body. In the days before bathrooms, when emptied it could be hung on the wall. This bath has a tiny hole in the base as seen in the pictures. A lovely interior design piece. We fill our one with flowers.
