A watercolour by renowned French artist Jules Médard Klippstiehl (1904–1965). This painting is of a typical mansion in Mulhouse, from the Rebberg district. Signed, le 30 Aout 28 Jules Klippstiehl fils de Mulhouse (August 30th, 1928 Jules Klippstiehl son of Mulhouse).
A student of the School of Fine Arts of Mulhouse, Klippstiehl published many lithographs of Alsatian towns and villages, but the artist’s original works are rarer.
Typically executed with a strong focus on architecture this painting differs from similar works with the inclusion of abundant foliage in the foreground giving a pleasing softer image. The painting is framed behind glass with the paper border having some foxing. The frame can be described as shabby chic in red and gold.
Mulhouse is a region in the Haut-Rhin department of the Alsace region very close to the French border with Germany and Switzerland.
